Inauguration of First year B.Tech, B.Arch & B.Des programs of PES University

Inauguration of First year B.Tech, B.Arch & B.Des programs of PES University was held at the PES University campus. The program was inaugurated by Prof. HP Khincha, Ex Vice –Chancellor of VTU, Belagavi. Prof. Khincha while addressing the students, stated on the fundamental question, the students need to ask in higher education is the purpose of education. The purpose of education is to get the knowledge, knowing new developments and lead a life. However, Prof. Khincha emphasized that it is about disciplining the mind, how do we want to live a life and how can I equip myself to live the life I want. To achieve this, the students should focus not only on the academic curriculum, but also on other subjects, extracurricular activities and inculcating values through teachers as role models. He quoted from Swami Vivekananda that the four pillars of education is to learn, to do, to live and to be self. Classroom teaching, hands on experiments will help to achieve the former two processes; where as opportunities provided by the institute would help in understanding the third concept and teachers qualities and values help in building the fourth concept. The students should utilize the four years of higher education life to reflect on pursuing what is good life. It involves the student’s responsibilities to the institution, to be a good citizen and understand the intricacies of the role of a global and planetary citizenship process. In his presidential address, Dr. M.R. Doreswamy, Chancellor of PES Univeristy spoke on the role of education at PES University is not to provide only degrees, but it is a nation building activity. From 160 students in 1988 to 1440 in 2018, PES has grown both in its commitment to quality education and inculcating values through insisting students to keep Sir M Visvesvaraya and Abdul Kalam as role models. This will help our students not only a job seekers, but also job providers or entrepreneurs. He opined that the hope of a country depends on its youth and their aspiration. He wanted students to develop a friendship with books and continue this habit. If new India has to emerge, it is not only with the help of technology, but inculcating values and the culture our ancestors nourished. He wanted students to remember their mother, mother tongue and mother land to see the meaning in their life. PES University Vice Chancellor Dr. K.N. B.
