Sixth CAC held

The sixth edition of Celebrities and Celebrations presented an opportunity to listen to Dr. T G Ramesh, Visiting Scientist at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences and formerly scientist of CSIR-NAL. Dr. Ramesh, outlined the journey of Sir C V Raman from his birth and highlighted his achievements as a student. He spoke about Raman’s interest in Physics which won gold medals as an undergraduate and highest distinction in M.Sc studies. He mentioned how Sir Raman got fascinated to work at Indian Association of Cultivation of Science and at Calcutta University. He narrated the story of Raman being invited to the Oxford University Congress and honored by Lord Rutherford. He spoke in detail about the Classical theory of Raman scattering and quantum theory of scattering in very simple words. According to him, it was also interesting to note that, how Rayleigh’s observations were inspiring to Sir Raman and how he proved him wrong with respect to the blue color of the ocean. It was an emotional moment, said Dr. Ramesh, when Sir Raman received the Nobel prize and a telegram congratulating him from Gandhiji, who was in the prison. Dr. Ramesh concluded his speech by touching upon Sir. Raman’s dutifulness, dedication and simplicity that made him worthy of Bharata Ratna. Dr. KNB Murthy, Chairman, BITES and Vice-Chancellor, PES University delivered the welcome address and Dr. Jamadagni, Professor at IISc, introduced the Speaker and the Celebrity of the month, Sir C V Raman. The event jointly organized by PES University and BITES was held on Nov 7, 2019. The Board for IT Education Standards (BITES) is an autonomous body and a non-profit society promoted by the Government of Karnataka, in association with educational institutions and IT Industries in Karnataka, in order to enhance the quality of IT education and help build quality manpower for the IT industry.
