The seminar featured expert speakers from industry and academia. The students gained better understanding of analytics, tools and processes used in the industry and their applications in various domains. The panel discussion brought forth the views of experts on the emerging trends in data science. Dr.T.S.Mohan, Director and Founder, Pragyan Data Labs inaugurated the seminar. Eminent speakers shared their insights and practical experiences in the complex and fast growing area of data science and analytics.
Team Aranea from PES University works on novel de-orbiting mechanism for Micro and Nano satellites in low and medium altitude Earth orbits (LEOs & MEOs) in the project called Ultra-thin Wires Drag Enhancement System (UWDES). Ten members of the team attended the International Astronautical Congress (IAC)-2017 held at Adelaide, Australia from Sept 25th to 29th. IAC is the largest annual space tech conference attended by scientists, industry and academia worldwide. The team presented a paper on the UWDES concept, titled “Drag Enhancement for Spacecraft using Numerous Ultra-Thin Wires Arranged into Drag-Wire Webs of Various Configurations”.
In this year’s Motor Trend Truck contest, the truck from Ford emerged as the Super Duty Motor Trend Truck of 2017. Kaushik Shanboug, as Engine Calibration Engineer, at Ford Motor Company, was part of the engineering team working on the winning product for over 57 months. Kaushik completed his BE in Telecom from PES in 2010.
Periodic assessments of student performance to know the actions required for improvements is a strong focus area at PES University. To prepare the students for the new methods be it for future studies, placements or entrepreneurship the university has already introduced computer based tests and plans to introduce tabs. The initiative was featured in Times of India recently.
It is well known that the economic progress of any country depends on its natural resources, intellectual resources and financial capital. It is the goal of every country to create wealth and prosperity for its citizens by configuring, combining, developing and leveraging these resources appropriately. The quality of these resources can improve only with education, in general, and higher education, in particular, by playing a crucial role in the country’s war against poverty and obscurantism.
With nearly 800 universities and over 40,000 colleges with an enrolment of over 33 million, Indian Higher Education System is undoubtedly the largest higher education system in the world. With such explosion in numbers, maintaining high standards remains a challenge. In this context, it was timely that MHRD asked “Association of Indian Universities” to come up with a study on Higher Education. In 2016, the association published a study titled “Regulation of Higher Education in India and Abroad: A study of Select Countries”.
PES University campus was witness to a celebration of science as school children from various institutions across India exhibited innovative working projects. On display at the venue were close to 90 working models of solutions for real world problems. Over 7500 students, with about 400 from other cities, visited the venue and actively participated in the activities. The Amateur Scientist 2017 (TAS 2017) with the motto of “Inspire, Invent, Innovate” is one of the initiatives of PES University to encourage school children to meet people, share knowledge and learn new things. The event exhibited working projects submitted by students studying in 8th to 12th standards.
Doctors at PES Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Kuppam Campus undertook a complex surgery that was performed in two stages in the form of reduction of multiple mandible fractures and fixation with plate and screw. The patient had suffered multiple facial and scalp injuries resulting in fall back of tongue and airway narrowing and difficulty breathing and suffered a head injury with intracranial bleed.
The national finals and Bengaluru round of the closely watched quizzing battle will be held on Friday, Nov 17, at the PES University campus. ConQuizTador 2017 is being held in 15 cities across the country and with it making its debut in 3 cities. With accomplished quizzers from 15 cities and cash prizes of over Rs 130,000, ConQuizTador 2017 is proving to be the biggest and best edition of the quiz since inception in 2011.
