The Hindu Article: Talented duo from city head to ‘Skills Olympics’
The city can brag about two of its youths getting ready to participate in WorldSkills Competition, popularly known as ‘Skills Olympics’.
Chirag Goel (web designing) and Abhishek B.S. (prototype modelling)will be part of a 21-member team that will represent India across 19 individual skill categories at the grand finale of the WorldSkills Competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in August. They made it to the team after winning in their respective categories at the WorldSkills India finals in New Delhi.
Chirag is a second-year computer science engineering student of PES Institute of Technology (South Campus). “We were asked to design and develop websites, and combine different languages to complete the task. We had to create a final image that would make a person want to click on the site,” recalled the aspiring entrepreneur.
Abhishek (19) is from the Toyota Technical Training Institute, Bidadi. Having chosen ‘paint’ as a trade immediately after completing Class 10, he is excited to be able to represent the country in the category. He will be travelling abroad for the first time.
The WorldSkills India competition is conducted by the National Skill Development Corporation, with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. This year’s event had 1,050 participants competing across 22 skills over an 11-month period. The winners were announced last week.
