The workshop and hands-on program trained the faculty members, research scholars and post graduate students in various techniques and skills involved in the preclinical experimental Pharmacology. Close to thirty shortlisted delegates of various disciplines across state of Karnataka attended and acquired the skills in the experimental techniques. Chief Guests, Prof Dr. V Murugan, Dean, Dayanandasagar University and Dr. HN Shivaprasad, Technical and Marketing Director, Prakruti Products Pvt Ltd emphasised the importance of preclinical research in Drug Development and asked the delegates to utilise the opportunity to upgrade their skills. The program was presided over by Dr. S. Mohan, Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences with the gracious presence Prof Dr. J Saravanan, DCC, PES University. Dr. S. Mohan, in his presidential address stressed on the significance of practical skills for post-graduate students of pharmacology, essential in the field of introduction of new medicines for which pre clinical studies are a prerequisite. He asked the students to develop interest in deep learning with a passion to excel. The workshop cum hands-on training program on Techniques in Experimental Pharmacology was convened by Dr. Shivalinge Gowda, Head of the Department. The workshop was organised by the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, HN Campus, PES University, Bangalore on December 19, 2019.
Breast cancer awareness programme was conducted in PES University HN Campus on 3rd December 2019 by Student Affairs, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is most common for women between the ages of 25 and 39 to focus on breast cancer awareness but girls as young as 15 can develop breast cancer. The Young Survival Coalition, a breast cancer support group for young women, says breast cancer accounts for 15% of all cancer diagnoses in younger women. Breast cancer is not only possible in such young age groups, but it is typically more aggressive and younger women diagnosed typically have a lower survival rate. To educate the girl students and women employees a breast cancer awareness program was organized by Student Affairs, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. 410 students & staff members participated in the event from various programmes (Pharmacy, PUC & Commerce) across the campus. Dr. Mallika Natraj, Breast Oncologist, Sparsh Hospital Yeshwanthpur Bengaluru, created awareness on Breast Cancer, its causes, preventive measures and also briefed the audience on prevalence, incidence, and dietary influence. She rolled out statistics to prove the alarming increase in breast cancer cases in recent years. Demonstrative videos to explain how to carry out Self Breast Examination (SBE) were shown and advised the girl students & women employees on the measures to be taken to protect themselves from the dreadful disease. The programme dismantled all myths and overcame taboos concerning Breast Cancer and gave students the entire spectrum of the topic on basis of factual accuracy. This promoted unity on part of the audience to stand together in the face of breast cancer, creating awareness amongst them and encouraging them to pass on this important and valuable information to their female peers and family members. The programme received overwhelming participation & responses from the participants.
An essential principle in the practice of geriatric medicine is the need to scrupulously and frequently review the patient’s current list of medications. The necessity for this practice cannot be overstated. Very frequently, the causes of a change in a patient’s health status or level of cognition are likely the result of a change in the patient’s medication regimen. This change may result in an adverse drug reaction or may result in the development of a drug-drug interaction. To educate the Pharm.D students PES University, HN campus had arranged a lecture-discussion for students by Mr. Katta Anand Srinivas, Subject Matter Expert, Artificial Learning Systems Bengaluru on the topic “Geriatric Patients Medication Review” on Friday, 29th Nov 2019. The event was attended by 72 students of Pharm.D Program. Various topics like Social and Emotional Issues of Aging, Clinical Syndromes and Health Issues of Aging, Areas and Issues of Pharmacy Practice for Geriatric Patients etc. were covered during the discussion.
National Pharmacists Week is celebrated to highlight the pivotal role pharmacists play in the healthcare system. Students of pharmacy program undertook various activities based on the theme of pharmacists’ role in patient’s safety and efficacy of medicine. The students participated in a rally urging the citizens to avoid excess use of antibiotics and adapt a healthier lifestyle. The placards in English and Kannada carried catchy messages like: The Best and Most Efficient Pharmacy Is Within Our Own System and Get High on Life and Not Drugs, to quote a few. The event acknowledged the invaluable contributions of pharmacists in hospitals, outpatient clinics and other health care settings. The National Pharmacy Week was organised by department of pharmacy practice of PES University from Oct 21-26, 2019.
“Learning gives Creativity, Creativity leads to Thinking, Thinking provides Knowledge, Knowledge makes us Great….Quiz competitions are always interesting and informative, which provide excitement among the students and also make them aware of current affairs. A mega quiz competition was organized by PES University through Student affairs committee of HN Campus for students from PUC, commerce and Pharmacy departments on 27.11.2019 in the Kuvempu auditorium. Around 168 teams participated in quiz competition. Quiz master Mr. Preetham Upadhya a 4th year engineering student from PES university,current President of the Quotient Quiz Club & winner of 300 quizzes at national and international level conducted the quiz competition. The event was graced with the presence of Dr. M R Doreswamy, the founder Chancellor of PES University who encouraged the participants with his best wishes. Out of 168 teams; with 2 participants per team, had registered for the prelims test & 08 teams were selected for finals. The quiz comprised of oral questions, riddles, audio and visual rounds. Through various interesting as well as challenging rounds, the knowledge of the participating students was put to test in this quiz. The participants as well as the audience thoroughly enjoyed these rounds that tested how proficient they were. The quiz was of a great success. Students of PES College of Pharmacy secured top ranks in pharmacy examination conducted by RGUHS for academic year 2018-19. Mitesh Bhansali and Simran Singhal jointly stood first in fourth semester, Ruqia Khanum stood sixth in fourth semester and Bhavana B R stood third in first semester of BPharma program.
Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, HN Campus organized a Pharma Exhibition in HN Campus on 22/11/2019. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof.Dr.M.R.Doreswamy, Chancellor, PES University along with Prof.M.V.Sathyanarayana, the campus Director, HN Campus PES University. Fun and Enthusiasm filled the venue where the bubbling students of B.Pharm, Pharm.D and M.Pharm programs made many models both automatic and semi- automatic working models that were depicting recent advancements and research findings in Pharma field. A total of 50 exhibits were exhibited from six different departments of specialization i.,e, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy , Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmacy Practice. To high light a few – synthesized soluble plastics by extracting soluble starch from natural sources like banana, corn, Potato etc. The beauty of this soluble plastic is that it is bio-degradable and will overcome the current menace posed by plastic in environmental pollution. A huge model of Quality Control lab of Pharmaceutical industry showing the microbiology lab with air filters, wet lab and instrumental lab was exhibited. A working models of magnetic stirrer from waste material and purification of smoke by using an air purifier were constructed and exhibited. Alteration and rectification of gene using crispr-cas9 model was made and light was thrown upon its advantages for gene altering to get tailor made species. The students of Pharm.D IV year had also arranged for basic Health check up like Body Mass Index(BMI), Pulse, Blood Pressure and blood glucose level monitoring to the public, students and employees of PES University. The main crowd who witnessed and gained knowledge from this exhibition were PUC students and the general public.
The intense quizzing competition conducted by quiz master Meghavi Manjunath saw students of BBA and BCom programs from all campuses of PES University compete in three-rounds with options, buzzer and audio-visual cues. The contestants showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, the teams answered them with confidence. The questions put forth to the teams were intriguing, exciting and impressed the audience and had them clapping loudly when the teams answered correctly. 22 teams from Hanumanthanagar campus, 4 teams from Electronic city campus and 39 teams from RR campus participated in the quiz. The winners were from RR campus and runners up from Hanumanthanagar campus got attractive purchase vouchers and certificates. Bizquiz-2019 for was organized by Department of BBA on October 31, 2019.
On the occasion of World Pharmacist Day students of PES College of Pharmacy organised a free health screening camp covering BP, Blood Sugar and BMI checks and patient counselling. The camp was conducted at Vivekananda Park, Bengaluru on 25 September, 2019.
As part of the program related to World Food day, faculty of department of Pharmacy, accompanied the students and contributed an amount covering food expenses of four days for the orphan children. The volunteers interacted with children of Anatha Shishu Nivasa, on Oct 16, 2019. The theme for this year’s World Food Day is: Our Actions Are Our Future, Healthy Diets for A #ZeroHunger World.
PES University donated Rs. 1 Crore to the Flood Relief fund of Karnataka. Dr. M R Doreswamy, Chancellor and Prof. D Jawahar, Pro Chancellor presented the cheque to Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri BS Yeddyurappa. On the occasion, Dr. M R Doreswamy reiterated the institution’s commitment to actively assist the government and support people in the flood affected areas. PES University plans to provide all infrastructural support to 10 rural schools in flood affected areas. The NSS team in PES University is engaged in the rehabilitation process. Chief Minister Sri BS Yeddyurappa expressed his gratitude to PES University for extending whole hearted support to the state of Karnataka.
PES University emerged as the number one University under the category of New Universities, under 5 years, in Karnataka State Universities Rating Framework (KSURF) 2019 published recently. The applicant universities of the state were evaluated on the parameters of research excellence, innovation, teaching excellence, infrastructure, inclusiveness and social impact.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by newly admitted students and their parents. Speaking on the occasion Justice Vishwanath Shetty observed that there will always be many opportunities for students in a democratic system. He felt that neither the place of origin nor any other hurdle will come in the way of students who put up hard work and focus on achieving. He said that in our country even a young person hailing from a rural background can rise to the highest position like that of a President, Prime Minister or Lokayukta. He reiterated that all students who have secured admission in PES University are lucky since the university is known for excellence in education. Mr. Ravishankar Rao, Senior Manager, Strategic and Planning, CISCO, a distinguished alumnus of PES University addressed the students on the occasion and suggested that students should be technically sound, develop good communication skills and understand the corporate culture. According to him the industry is growing rapidly and demands by industry will be widely varying and therefore students should be responsive to the new technologies and changes. He felt that excellence in quality and being amenable to changes is the need of the hour and students therefore must be ready for this to shine and better their career. He wished the best to students entering higher education and congratulated them for getting admitted to PES University, renowned for quality education and placements. Prof. D Jawahar, Pro Chancellor, delivered the orientation lecture and outlined SPIRIT a unique process framework put into practice successfully by PES University that enables the students to realise their potential. The inauguration of First year BBA, BBA-HEM, B.Com and Law (Integrated Honors Programs – BBA, LLB, BA,LLB and B.Com, LLB) was held on Aug 4, 2019 on the campus was attended by over 2,200 students and parents.

The Outlook-ICARE India University Rankings 2019 placed PES University at the sixth position among the private state universities in India. According to the agency the rankings, designed with valuable feedback from the industry, evaluate institutions based on parameters such as Faculty Student Ratio (FSR), Faculty with PhD (FWP), Papers Per Faculty (PPF), Citations Per Paper (CPP) and Inclusiveness & Diversity (ID). Institutions are awarded an overall rank depending on the number of points achieved through the evaluation. Today, PES University is proud of the student satellite in the space, students pursuing higher studies in leading global universities across the world, papers in prestigious conferences by our staff members and students, placements at leading global corporates for final year students, start-ups of alumni and many such path-breaking achievements. Inauguration of first semester diploma classes in PES Polytechnic college was an enriching experience for enthusiastic students & parents. The course information book of first year diploma was released by Sri Vinaya Kumar, VP, TKM. He suggested that parents and teachers should inspire and help students to set bigger goals. He talked about the importance of being a responsible citizen and developing quality and skills needed to be job creators instead of job seekers. In his presidential address, Dr. M R Doreswamy, Chancellor, PESU opined that merit is the only criteria to that helps one to rise above caste and creed and reach the peak. He highlighted the importance of having a vision. He also noted that providing education with values is a nation building activity. He observed that an institution’s management, parents and teachers play a key role in grooming a student. On the occasion, five meritorious students of final year were felicitated with gold medals. Toppers in first and second year were felicitated with certificate of merit and gift vouchers. The induction program was conducted under the guidance of Director Prof. M.V. Sathyanarayana & Principal Prof. H. N. Devaraju. The event was held on the PES Polytechnic campus on July 7, 2019.
British Biologicals has been associated with the PES College of Pharmacy, Bangalore to support the economically underprivileged students by providing scholarships on an annual basis. 15 students were selected by PES Scholarship committee this year.
Aspiration 2019, a two day national level cultural carnival featuring inspirational speeches, cultural performance and felicitation of meritorious students was hosted by PES University. The fourteenth edition of annual college magazine Vision 2019 was released during the occasion. Dr. Seema Deep, Director-Service Operations Lifecycle Safety IQVIA, graced the event as chief guest. In her address to the gathering shared her view that students need to follow their hearts to excel in the chosen field. She outlined the journey a drug molecule takes to reach the market and increasing importance of pharmacovigilance. She was all praise for the profession of pharmacy for rendering valuable services to the society. Sri. Upasana Mohan, guest of honour, enthralled the audience with his mesmerising voice. Rank holders of M. Pharm program, RGUHS, GPAT 2019 qualifiers and class toppers of B. Pharm, M. Pharm and Pharm. D programs were felicitated. Fathima Biwi Award for best outgoing B. Pharm student was conferred on Ms. Darshika Mehta by Ms. Anju Majeed of Sami Labs and British Biologicals scholarships were awarded to the economically weaker students. Dr. M. R. Doreswamy in his presidential address commanded the pharmacy sector in India for providing drugs at economical rates compared to the developed countries. He felt that students can look upon the dignitaries on the stage as a role model and become entrepreneurs. He observed that with proper use of science and technology by the youngsters India can be a powerful nation by the year 2020. Prof. Dr. S. Mohan - Director and Prof. Dr. J. The classes for diploma, bachelor’s and master’s program in Pharmacy were inaugurated in the august presence of chief guest, Dr. Veena Vinod Kumar, senior manager, Global safety, Novo Nordisk Service Centre. Dr. Goutam V. Pujari, Head BE and clinical research, Apotex Research was the guest of honor. The function was presided over by Dr. M.R. Doreswamy, Chancellor, PES University. Dr. S. Mohan, Director and Prof. J. Saravanan, Principal of PES College of Pharmacy were present on the occasion.
Shrikant converted an old motorbike which was out of use into a racing bike which could easily clock speeds in the range of 130 km per hour. Riders would be surprised by the speeds the bike could attain with hardly any jerk or vibration. The engine, gear box, forks, disc brakes and suspension were modified for racing conditions. The tank, kicker, case side lamps and other parts were designed by Shrikanh using CADD and fabricated using lathes and laser cutting machines. A mobile phone with a customized app doubles up as a speedometer showing accurate time and distance. Shrikant is a final year diploma student at PES Polytechnic college.

PES Degree College had organized Zenith 2017, an inter college commerce and cultural fest on 31st March & 1st April 2017 at Central Campus, Hanumathanagar Bangalore-50. Zenith 2017 was inaugurated by Dr M.R Doreswamy Ex-MLC &Chancellor PES University along with the Chief Guest – Sri T.S Nagabharana – Litterateur and film director and Guest of Honor- Mr. Hirendra Badhiye- Vice president, HR, Asia Pacific, Northern Operating Services Pvt. Ltd on 31st March 2017 in the presence of Prof. M.V Satanarayana, Academic Director, DR.A.V Chandra shekar Principal, PES Degree College, Staff and Students. Day one of the fest consisted of seven events, both commerce and literary. The events were – Ad-selfie, Best Manger, Quiz, Hard Sell, Poetry writing, suggest a Caption and Mini-Militia. Day two comprised of seven events –Group song & Dance, Skit, Pencil Sketching, Face Painting, Dub Smash and Photography. The fest was a huge success and witnessed participation by more than 150 students from 30 various colleges. The fest culminated with a grand valedictory function where the prizes winners were awarded cash prizes.
