Team Ninaada, the PES University’s Student Forum for promoting Indian Culture and Heritage, conducted SamaRasa 2018 dated 22nd and 23rd of September 2018. This event was inaugurated by Ustad Faiyaz Khan , a Saarangi Maestro and Renowned Hindustani Vocalist.
Joining him was the Chancellor of PES Institutions, Dr. M.R. Doreswamy, the Vice Chancellor of PES University, Dr. K.N.B. Murthy, the registrar of PES University, Dr. V. Krishnamurthy and Dr. V.Krishna, the Cultural Convenor. The event was jam packed on both the days and was free of cost and open to general public. As a special attempt, PES University’s second year design student Akshatha Rudrapatna , rendered a beautiful hour long invocatory concert accompanied by Chi. Vishwajit Muttur on the violin, Vid. Nikshit Puttur on the mridangam and Vid. Ganesh Murthy V on the ghatam.
While addressing the audience Ustad Faiyaz Khan conveyed that music is equivalent to invoking Goddess Saraswati and praised the importance that the university shows towards the art.
This was followed by the presidential address by Dr. M R Doreswamy where he spoke about the influence of classical music on our lives and importance of Indian heritage and culture. He wished for the event to be a grand success.
Following the inauguration, was Ustad Faiyaz Khan’s Hindustani Vocal Concert. He was accompanied by Ut. Sarfaraaz Khan on the Saarangi, Pt. Trilochan Kampli on the tabla and Ut. Faraaz Khan on vocal support. Kum. Hiranmayee Sharma and Chi. Sameer Kulkarni provided tanpura and vocal support to the main artists. More than 600 people were there to witness this event.
Samarasa 2018 resumed the festival on the second day at 11.00 am in the morning. This musical day was kicked off with a special Nagaswaram concert with Tavil Superstar Vid. Mannargudi Dr. M.R. Vasudevan. Vid. B.S. Ramesh Babu and Vid.B. Srinivas were on the nagaswaram. Vid. Bikkambitti B.R. Venkatesh accompanied these artists on the Tavil.
Second concert of the day was yet again by PES University’s first year engineering student, Bangalore M Nishanth.Nishanth was accompanied on the violin by Chi. Sumanth Manjunath, son of Karnataka’s leading violinist Dr. Mysore Manjunath. He was accompanied on the Mridangam by Vid. Nikshith Puttur and on the ghatam by Vid. Ganesh Murthy V.
Third on the list of concerts was a Hindutani Bansuri Rendition by Suramani Pt. Pravin Godkhindi. He started the concert with a presentation in Raga Madhuvanti. This was followed by an hour long Carnatic vocal rendition by Vid. Abhishek Raghuram. The most special part of the event Samarasa was the Jugalbandi by Pt. Pravin Godkhindi and Vid. Abhishek Raghuram. Chi. Shadaj Godkhindi provided Bansuri support in this part of the concert. Vid. Parur M.S. Ananthakrishnan accompanied Abhishek on the violin and Vid. Vazhapally Krishnakumar accompanied him on the ghatam. Pt. Ravindra Yavagal accompanied both these stalwarts on the tabla. They presented a very special Raga Tana Pallavi in Raga Mohanam. This event was the highlight event of Samarasa 2018 as it brought in both the Carnatic and Hindustani connoisseurs of music.
Samarasa 2018 ended with a spectacular bharatnatyam recital by Vid.P.Praveen Kumar and Chitkala Ensemble. SamaRasa 2018 was given a spectacular ending by the Chitkala Ensemble by their beautiful formations and mudras in their dance piece titles “Nrutyollasa”. Their first piece was a series of stories on Lord Krishna named Krishnanjali. Their performance for the Dikshitar kriti “Ardhanareeshwaram” in Raga Kumudakriya was heart warming and a magical experience for all witnessing.
