Fund Managers Summit
Implementing investment strategies and managing portfolio trading activities is challenging like never before. Deep financial knowledge and decision-making skills help fund managers make informed financial decisions. The first panel discussion on Navigating Through Financial Decisions featured entrepreneurs and finance professionals, Kedarnath Choudhury, Sudeep Dey, Aneel Madhavan Nair, and Denis Alberquerque. The panelists highlighted the importance of financial decision-making and roadmap for the student’s future fiscal strategies. The session was moderated by Anu Seth, Co-Founder of Pay it Forward. Kedarnath Choudhury, CEO of Stellapps Technologies, shared insights on strategic financial decisions in agriculture. He felt that a detailed study on productivity, stock management, and the scale of the business is important to understand the market needs and size of the consumers. Sudeep Dey, Co-Founder of Starlight Wealth LLP, spoke about the importance of wealth management and corporate treasury management for a company’s success. Aneel Madhavan Nair, Associate Director of Wealth and Management, Sanctum, spoke about clients’ expectations that are important to setting real-time objectives. Denis Albuquerque, Assistant Vice President at JP Morgan, spoke about hedge funds, traders, and derivatives. Zakhil Suresh, CEO of BitSave, spoke about his journey in the field of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. The second panel discussion on Navigating Through Financial Decisions with entrepreneurs and finance professionals Disha Singh, Emmanuel Suraj, Jainil R. Lakhani, and Aman Ahmed was moderated by Amit Pamnami, CIO, Deputy GM, Swastika Investmart. Disha Singh, Portfolio Manager, NSRCEL, IIMB spoke about entering startups, studying markets to identify incubators and accelerators, and the importance of mentors and resources. Emmanuel Suraj, CEO of DefinEquity Investment Managers, shed light on the challenges that students can expect in a professional journey. He shared his experience transitioning from investment banking to founding a startup. Jainil R. Lakhani, Vice President of Goldman Sachs, recommended getting practical work experience before pursuing a postgraduate degree to clarify their interests. He emphasized the importance of cost-benefit analysis when planning one’s career journey. He elaborated on investment risks, quantifying risks, and controlling them appropriately. He underscored the increasing importance of risk management due to geopolitical changes. Aman Ahmed, Associate Elev8 Venture Partners, shared his experience with entering the competitive field of venture capital, elaborated on the skills needed to sustain and having a straightforward mentor. Disha Singh reiterated the importance of internships to find one’s passions and getting a job that allows shifting perspectives. She cautioned against getting too comfortable early in one’s career. Emmanuel Suraj outlined the main functions of finance - raising capital, managing capital, redistributing wealth, and redeploying wealth. He recommended gaining fundraising experience and focused reading. Fund Managers Summit 2024 was organized by the Faculty of Management and Commerce on January 11, 2024 at RR campus.
