The students of the department of Civil Engineering participated in the walkathon aimed at highlighting the importance of involvement of civil engineers and NBC in construction of buildings. Eminent experts from the civil engineering fraternity who were present spoke about the importance of building safety and impressed upon the budding engineers to inculcate the practices. They also stressed the need to adopt NBC 2016 and few designated senior engineers planned to meet the Chief Minister at Vidhana Soudha and submit a memorandum. The walkathon was organized by ACCE(I), Bangalore Centre with participation from industry and department of civil engineering from various institutions on November 25, 2021.
The Extensive Survey Project for the year 2021 was conducted for the 6th semester civil engineering students from 16th to 22 August 2021 at the Bangalore University campus.
The main objective of this camp was to give a brief orientation to the students about the real time applications of the basic aspects of civil engineering that they would have learnt in the previous semesters.
The survey camp comprised of the conduction of four projects:
In the above mentioned projects, the students had to carry out the basic surveying procedures like collecting the ground data, plotting them on the drawing sheet manually and using softwares and then designing the structures or the highway depending on the nature of the project.
Due to the prevailing pandemic situation, outstation survey camp could not be planned, keeping the safety aspects in mind. In this regard, the camp was organized at the Bangalore University campus following the necessary safety protocols.
The new tank project and the water supply project were conducted from 16th to 18th August and the highway project and the layout planning were carried out from 19th to 22nd August 2021.
The students were divided into four batches and each batch was assigned to carry out the projects on their own with the guidance of the faculty members. This also helped the students to get an exposure of working as a team in completing the stipulated work within the given time frame.
‘Abhyudaya’ – The student club of the Department of Civil Engineering, PES University was inaugurated on 24th March 2021 at 3rd Floor Seminar Hall, B Block. The club was inaugurated auspiciously by the dignitaries, Mr. N. P. Sharma, Chief General Manager and Principal, BMRCL Training Institute Bangalore. Mr. Anirudh. S. Dutt, Founder and President, Let’s Be The Change (LBTC), Bangalore. Dr. V. Krishna, Dean Student Affairs, PES University and Dr. S. V. Venkatesh, Chairperson, Department of Civil Engineering.
The Abhyudaya student Club aims to conduct the various activities which would be beneficial to the students in their overall personality development.
The second half of the event commenced with an amazing keynote address by Mr. N. P. Sharma on the present scope of civil engineering and how it is going to get even better over the coming years. Mr. Anirudh Dutt then addressed the gathering about his journey of starting LBTC as a civil engineering student, how his organization has developed over the years from his garage to an incubation centre at IIM, Bangalore.
