Know your PES sessions
The diverse activities, facilities, library, cultural and academic events on campus are open for students to participate and identify their strengths and build on them. Know-your-PES sessions made the students aware of these facilities and initiatives and how to make the most of them. Dr. V Krishna, Dean of Student Affairs, introduced over 80 registered student clubs and highlighted the campus and department-level events these clubs drive. He showcased major annual university events such as Aatmatrisha, Prakalpa, and Samarpana. Dr. Krishna advised students on maintaining well-being through yoga, exercise, positive friendships, and avoiding addiction or misbehavior on campus. He concluded the session with a quiz on Indian music legends and encouraged students to draw inspiration from leaders like Swami Vivekananda and Rahul Dravid. Prof. Satya Prasad, Director of CIE, outlined the center’s journey, courses, and opportunities it offers. He covered topics on entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial mindset, small and medium enterprises, and innovation-driven enterprises and the qualities needed to become a successful entrepreneur. Dr. Subhash Reddy B, librarian at PES University, informed students about the extensive library resources at the RR campus, including over 1 lakh books and 16 thousand e-books. He demonstrated the ease of book issue and return through RFID, digital library features, and the process for borrowing and reserving books. He highlighted institutional memberships with libraries at IISc, Institute of Social and Economic Change, and the Case Center - UK. He showcased digital resources available through partners like Edzter, IndiaStat, JStor, and Tracxn. Dr. Subhash emphasized the use of Turnitin for plagiarism detection to help students prepare original reports and explained the benefits of creating student profiles in IEEEXplore. He touched upon access to previous year question papers, old projects, and articles in digital format. The department of Computer Applications organized the series of talks as part of an induction program for the I Semester students of MCA program on October 21-24, 2024 at RR campus.
