Learning Sustainability: Site Visit to Rainwater Harvesting Theme Park

On 19th November 2025, third-semester students from PES University’s Faculty of Architecture visited the Sir M. Visveshvaraiah Rainwater Harvesting Theme Park in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. This visit was part of the Building Services – I (UA24FA223A) course, aimed at providing practical exposure to sustainable water management systems.

Purpose of the Visit
The objective was to help students understand the design principles, implementation techniques, and maintenance requirements of rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems, which play a crucial role in sustainable architecture.

Key Learning Highlights

Life-Size Demonstrations
- Students explored models showcasing rooftop collection systems, groundwater recharge pits, percolation wells, filtration chambers, and storage tanks.
Expert Interaction
- Professionals from BWSSB explained material choices, site considerations, and compliance with local RWH bylaws.
Hands-On Understanding
- Live demonstrations illustrated how RWH systems can be integrated into architectural designs for water conservation.

Impact on Students
The visit reinforced the importance of eco-friendly design practices and encouraged students to incorporate sustainable water strategies in future projects. It bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world application, making sustainability a tangible concept.
