Creativity and attention to detail are essential skills in the hospitality industry, where even the smallest elements contribute to guest experience. Emphasizing this, the Department of BBA – Hospitality and Event Management (BBA‑HEM), PES University, curated a hands-on workshop on Decorative Towel Sculptures on March 23 and 26, 2026, held at the PES University campus in Bengaluru.

The workshop ran from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on both days and was attended by Second Semester BBA‑HEM students, offering them a unique opportunity to blend creativity with practical hospitality skills.

Transforming Everyday Essentials into Art
The session introduced students to the art of towel folding and sculpting—a globally recognized hospitality practice that enhances room aesthetics and elevates guest satisfaction. What began as a simple introduction soon evolved into an immersive creative experience, where students learned how an ordinary household item can be transformed into a visually appealing artistic expression.

Workshop Flow and Activities
The program followed a structured, hands-on format to ensure progressive learning

  • Introduction to Towel Art (1:15 p.m. – 1:20 p.m.)
Students were familiarized with the concept, purpose, and relevance of towel art in the hospitality industry.
  • Tutorial and Image Selection (1:20 p.m. – 1:40 p.m.)
Basic folding techniques were demonstrated, and students selected reference designs for inspiration.
  • Towel Art Creation (1:40 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
Participants actively created towel sculptures, experimenting with forms such as animals, human figures, flowers, and thematic shapes.
  • Presentations (3:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.)
Students showcased their creations, explaining the concepts and inspirations behind their designs.

Learning Through Hands-On Experience
The workshop provided students with more than just technical skills. It helped them understand

  • Foundational techniques of towel sculpting
  • Theme curation and visual balance in room décor
  • Aesthetic coordination, aligning towel sculptures with the overall ambiance of a space
  • The role of creative presentation in enhancing guest experience in hotels and resorts

Fostering Practical Hospitality Skills
Curated by the BBA‑HEM faculty team at PES University, the workshop aligned perfectly with experiential learning goals. By encouraging creativity, spatial awareness, and attention to detail, the event strengthened students’ practical understanding of hospitality aesthetics—an essential aspect of professional hotel operations.

A Creative Step Towards Industry Readiness
The Decorative Towel Sculptures workshop successfully combined art, design, and hospitality practice, making learning both engaging and meaningful. Such hands-on initiatives reflect PES University’s commitment to nurturing industry-ready professionals who appreciate the finer details that define excellence in service.
