Speak Corporate: Unnikrishnan Menon Leads Insightful Workshop on Corporate Communication at PES University
Effective communication lies at the core of professional success, shaping how individuals present ideas, collaborate with teams, and represent organisations. Reinforcing the importance of this essential skill, the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication (IJMC), PES University, organized a professional workshop titled “Speak Corporate – A Workshop on Corporate Communication” on October 30, 2025, at the PESU IJMC Campus, RR Nagar, Bengaluru.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Unnikrishnan Menon, Senior Associate Consultant at Infosys, who brought with him over five years of industry experience across customer service management, operations, and user experience.
Understanding Communication in the Corporate World
The session began with a foundational discussion on the difference between internal and external communication, helping students understand how messaging varies across organisational contexts. Mr. Menon highlighted the golden rules of effective communication, emphasizing clarity, intention, and professionalism as key drivers of success in corporate environments.
He explained how structured communication enhances credibility, builds professional confidence, and ensures alignment within and outside an organisation.
Professional Frameworks for Clear Expression
A major highlight of the workshop was the introduction to two widely adopted corporate communication frameworks:
The STAR Method
Mr. Menon explained the STAR Method – Situation, Task, Action, Result, a structured approach commonly used in interviews, presentations, and professional storytelling. He demonstrated how this framework helps individuals communicate experiences clearly, ensuring impact and coherence in high-stakes professional interactions.
The KISS Principle
The workshop also introduced students to the KISS Method – Keep It Short and Simple, reinforcing the value of brevity in corporate communication. Mr. Menon stressed that concise communication reflects discipline, clarity of thought, and professionalism, especially in fast-paced corporate settings.
Professional Conduct Beyond Words
Beyond verbal communication, the workshop emphasized the importance of professional behaviour and workplace etiquette. Mr. Menon cautioned students against the use of slang, casual attitudes, or informal conduct in professional spaces.
He reminded participants that communication is multifaceted—encompassing tone, body language, posture, and overall demeanour—all of which contribute to how a professional is perceived in the corporate environment.
