At the Inter-College Sports Fest MAGNUS 2023 held at O.P Jindal University from March 17-19, 2023, PES University’s Badminton Women's Team bagged the silver medal and Pruthvik S secured silver medal in swimming in the 50 meters freestyle and 50 meters breaststroke.

Bangalore, India - In a stunning display of technical prowess and dedication, PES University's Student Technical Team achieved a podium finish in the highly competitive BAJASAE India 2023 event held at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.
The team's unwavering commitment to teamwork, coupled with their diligence and dedication, enabled them to secure a spot on the podium in the 2023 season of BAJASAE India. The team's impressive performance earned them an overall rank of 17 out of a field of 116 participating teams from across India.
The Maneuverability Event tested the team’s ability to maneuver their vehicle through tight turns and obstacles while maintaining control and speed. With their precise handling and expert driving skills, the team was able to secure a podium finish with an outstanding 2nd place overall India in this event. Similarly, in the Acceleration Event, the team’s vehicle displayed remarkable power and speed, allowing them to achieve a highly commendable 12th rank overall in India and 1st in Karnataka.
But perhaps the ultimate test of a vehicle’s capabilities came in the form of the four-hour Endurance Race, which saw the top 42 teams qualify Technical Inspection rounds out of 116 teams and battle it out on a grueling 4km off-road track. Team Haya Off-Roading was among the standout performers, who managed to achieve an impressive overall ranking of 12 out of 42 teams that qualified for the Endurance Event.

Vishal Onat was selected to represent Karnataka in the Under -19 Men's Cricket Ranji Trophy 2022. Earlier, Vishal hit 296 Runs against the tough bowling attack of Mumbai and scored 575 runs in 5 matches with an average of 105 which is among the top five leading run scores in Cooch Behar cricket tournament, India's national four-day cricket tournament for under-19 players run by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Nagendra of S-VYASA University popularized Yoga for 5 decades culminating in establishing this unique institution dedicated to promote Yoga and Meditation at local/National/International level. At this juncture, I would thank our beloved Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for popularizing Yoga as never before, at global level. The United Nations declaration of 21st June of every year as International Yoga Day is a global tribute to our culture and values, Prof. M. R. Doreswamy said. Similarly, Prof. H. S. Nagendra also propagated Yoga at the State level.
It is these stellar virtues that made me recommend integrating Yoga and Mediation at all levels of education to GoK. At PES Institution's yoga is a part of the curriculum.

The game tested the participants’ business acumen in striking a balance between its real estate holdings and cash reserves. Every piece of real estate that a team lands on after rolling the dice was bid through an auction and the payments were made based on a credit-based system. One team was eliminated after every two rounds, and the team with the greatest network won the game. First place was won by Team Amongs, followed by team Yapu and team Duckleg. Manasa S M, 7th-semester student of Computer Science Engineering at PESU EC Campus secured a Silver medal in 5th Indoor National Rowing Championship held from 11th-13th November 2022 at Chandigarh.
Students learnt the key aspect of how to conceptualize a sports tournament as a part of event planning practical. The box cricket and dodge ball tournaments branded as Afterburn helped students to learn working with local vendors, develop appropriate checklists and create marketing collateral. Atherburn sport event curated by the department of BBA-HEM was held on November 12, 2022 at RR campus.
The workshop based on high-performance training, with video-based analysis and survey, of the matches, games, and individual training provided an opportunity to learn about psychological safety, mindset suitable for highly competitive sports like IPL and choosing a person with the right attitude for a task. Ms. Priyanka Prabhakar and Mrs. Nivedita Rajan discussed the various thoughts that run in a player’s mind during the games, the pressure of winning from the audience, team, coaches and the country being of prime importance. Ms. Priyanka Prabhakar, Sports Psychologist with SAI (Sports Authority of India), the first Indian psychologist to have represented the Indian Women’s Hockey Team in international competition was also a part of Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics and Tokyo Olympics as psychologist. Mrs. Nivedita Rajan, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Mount’s Carmel College worked as Deputy Director, Education, at Indian Institute of Materials Management, and practices as a Consultant Sports Psychologist since 1998. The sports psychology workshop was organized by the department of BBA Sports Management on November 12, 2022 at RR campus.
Simulation provides students with opportunities to apply new skills, knowledge, and ideas in a practice setting that mirrors the real world. The mock IPL auction, 1-2-3 Sold aimed at testing the participants’ planning, public speaking and money management skills. The auction saw 24 teams bidding for the most suitable players. The top 12 most winnable squads made it to the next day and finally the top 3 teams carried the day. First place was bagged by Sparsh, Shreyansh and Ausheel. Submission by Pruthvi P, Ramya NP, Sheetal S and Veda N, a tool to find similar cases was awarded the Manupatra Prize for Most innovative and out-of-the-box solution along with a grant of Rs 50,000 at OpenNyAI Make-a-thon. The contest was conducted by Agami, a movement of ideas and people seeking to transform the experience of Justice in India. The emphasis of the make-a-thon was on enhancing the justice system in India using AI. The project was guided by Dr Mamatha H R. The final presentations are hosted here. The participants are students of semester 7 of the computer science program.
The special day aimed at creating awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value was marked by expert talk, panel discussion and quiz. The Chief Guest Mr. Kumar Pushkar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests APCCF, Wildlife and CEO, Karnataka EcoTourism Board articulated the importance of promoting native tourist destinations and called upon students to visit tourist destinations in India. The panel discussion on Destination Attractiveness of Karnataka for Domestic Tourism featured Mr. Ayyappa Somaiah, President of SKAL International Bangalore 407, Mr. Joseph K Jose, Pathfinder senior vice president, Mr. Anurag Gupta, founder of global trade fairs and convention, Mr. Mohan Kumar PK, SKAL Asia - director PR and communications, Ms. Jyothi Varma Ventures Pvt Ltd - director outreach, Mr. Pavan Jain Director of Trippy Escapes.
The discussion highlighted the importance of last mile connectivity, role of students and stakeholders to preserve natural flora and fauna, exploring new destinations within the country, using technology to promote destinations and improve accessibility and celebration of diversity and richness of our nation. SKAL is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. The department of BBA-HEM organized the event in association with SKAL International, Bangalore and India Tourism, Karnataka at RR campus on September 23, 2022.
PES students from BBA Sports Management were taken on a Field Visit on 16 th September 2022, which is an integrated part of the curriculum, had visited the Padukone -Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence (CSE) which is the world-class integrated Multi sports complex which is spread across 15 acres that offer Badminton, Football, Basketball, Swimming, Cricket, Tennis, Squash, and Yoga, having certified coaches to train students from a young age of 5 years to 19 years.
They believe in “To play a positive role in the lives of young athletes, by not only helping to develop their sport but also in guiding them on the basic human values which come along with it. Thereby makes the young athletes become strong individuals with great character discipline by becoming responsible citizens of our society with which they go on to contribute to the society responsibly & make a difference to the world by making it a better place to live“.
They have World-class amenities, equipment, training, guidance & nutrition to assess the students, and also a house hostel facility for dedicated students to train all 7 days with keen practice.
The entire complex is well maintained and taken care of by 30 operating staff who are assigned different roles and 45 + supporting staff to maintain the Hospitality and service. They have specialized doctors on board to heal and cure injuries of the sports persons for rehabilitation and expert Nutritionists to guide them on food and health.
In spite of such wonderful amenities, and infrastructure capable of accommodating 500+ students on campus for each session, we can find greenery in and around the complex which gives good sunlight, air and beautiful view which is of utmost importance for the Yoga Centre which is built-in for Meditation and therapy.
Students had an opportunity to explore, interact with the team, watch, learn and play. They were accompanied by 2 staff from BBA Sports Management Department.

Saneeth Dayanand won the gold medal in the senior men’s single category in the 76th Yonex Sunrise South Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship 2022 held from September 5 -8, 2022 at Kochi.
The inaugural edition of the Grand Prix Badminton League (2022) - 12th of August to the 21st of August 2022 - was played at the Karnataka Badminton Association, Bengaluru. The eight teams competing at the GPBL are viz; Mandya Bulls, Mysore Panthers, Bengaluru Lions, Malnad Falcons, KGF Wolves, Mangalore Sharks, Bundipur Tuskers, and Kodagu Tigers consist of 8 players each.

Swami Sivananda Ji has said, Guru is greater than God because God gives you materialistic things in life, but Guru gives you the knowledge and shows the way to live life, because of the blessings of my Guru, I am living my life at the age of 125. So each one of you must respect your Guru.
He appreciated the management of PES University for taking the initiative to encourage students to play sports and thanked everyone for inviting him on this day.
Dr. M. R. Doreswamy, the Hon'ble Chancellor of PES University, stated that PES University aims to train and raise elite athletes in various disciplines, with positive development in bringing sports facilities to students and staff on campus. He said Yoga and meditation should be taught in all schools, colleges, and universities.
In the newly constructed Golden Jubilee Block, the University has established an in-house World-class Gymnasium, Basketball Court, Badminton Court, Table-Tennis Arena, Squash Court, Yoga Studio, Running-Track, and Sports Science Center with the intention of promoting sports and the health of each individual.

The eighth international Yoga Day was held at PES University campus. Dr. R. Nagarathna Raghuram, Dean of Academics, SVYASA University Bangalore was the chief guest and presided by the Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy.
Dr. Nagarathna addressed the students on the importance of Yoga and showed the techniques for reducing anger and fear during exam time by remembering the Three M's (mastering over the monkeying of the mind to overcome stress, anxiety, and anger). She insisted students practice Yoga in whichever country they work after graduation.
Sri Raghuram spoke on the qualities of Yoga in enriching one's internal capabilities like strength and determination. He also said Yoga has been practiced throughout the world without any discrimination of caste, religion, or ethnic background. In his address he said that Three Narendra's are responsible for this transformation in the world, namely, Narendra MahaYogi, Lord Shiva, who taught Yoga to Parvathi Narendranatha Datta/Swamy Vivekananda brought it to America about 150 years ago and finally Narendra Modi, the honourable Prime Minister of India, who introduced Yoga to the world through UNO and made people to think of Yoga as a means of connecting humanity.
Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy said that he is happy to see the International Yoga Day on the occasion of the 75th year of India's independence. Dr. Doreswamy was grateful to the honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to bring Yoga to the world dais through International Yoga Day. Dr. Doreswamy admired Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conviction to Indian culture, tradition, and ritualistic practices, which were not seen in any previous PrimeMinisters. As an advisor on educational reforms to the Government of Karnataka, he made 18 recommendations and one among them was the practice of Yoga from KG to PG classes in all the Universities. He also advised MCI and AICTE on having Yoga as a mandatory subject in higher educational institutes and Universities.He said that Yoga should be part of inter-collegiate/ University competitions similar to sports and other activities. He said that practicing Yoga enhances physical, mental, and spiritual growth, an essential requirement of human development. He announced that Yoga will be part of the mandatory practice of PES University curriculum.
Dr. K.S. Sridhar, Registrar of PES University welcomed the guests. Dr. Anupallavi, a Yoga instructor in the Department of Sports demonstrated and taught a few yoga asanas and pranayama to a large audience.Later, the chief guests inaugurated the Yoga studio, a state-of-the-art facility within the campus. Sri Vinay, Director of sports, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. J. Surya Prasad, Vice-Chancellor of PES University graced the occasion.
PES University Men's Cricket Team clinched the runners-up position in an inter-university cricket tournament with Shivakumar B U recognized for most hundred's and as a most valuable player and Nishank L for best wicket-keeping in the tournament. The south zone inter-university men’s cricket was held at Hindustan University, Chennai from June 7-15, 2022.

Saneeth Dayanand won the bronze medal in Men’s Singles Badminton at Khelo India Youth Games 2022, organized by the Government of Haryana in association with the Sports Authority of India from June 4 -13 at Panchkula, Haryana.
Creating a history of sorts, Shreyas G Hosur becomes the First Civil Servant from Karnataka to complete the grueling ‘IRONMAN’ Triathlon, considered to be the toughest single-day sports event in the world, which includes 3.8 km Swim, 180 km Cycling, and 42.2 km Running. He completed the event in 13 hrs 26 mins on 5th June 2022, in Hamburg, Germany. The finishers of the event are popularly known as ‘IRONMAN’ befitting the mental and physical strength the race demands!
Starting the 3.8km Swim at 6:30 am in the chilly waters of the Hamburg lake, it was followed by 180km cycling in the countryside and ended with a full marathon of 42.2kms.
An alumnus of PESIT, Shreyas is a Civil Servant from the 2012 batch, currently serving as Deputy Financial Advisor with South Western Railway in Bengaluru. It is a proud feeling that he has been able to achieve this challenging feat despite the challenges of his profession.

PES University’s Department of Physical Education and Sports management held the Awards Ceremony for the Campus Challenge Organized in the Campus during April 30, 2022 to May 06, 2022. A total of 8 games were held with 17 students bagging Medals and Certificates for their performances at the National and International levels.
Mr.Santhosh Babu, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Ramanagara, Dronacharya, and Arjuna Awardee Mr.Jude Felix Sebastian were the Chief Guests.
In his address, Mr.Santhosh Babu appreciated the efforts of the Sports Department in motivating students to participate in sports activities.
Mr.Jude Felix complimented the University for creating a state-of-the-Art Sports infrastructure to boost sports activities on the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.M.R.Doreswamy, Chancellor emphasized the need for encouraging students to participate in sports and said that Sports is equally important as academics for students. He mentioned that “Local Sports like Kabaddi and Kho-kho must be equally encouraged and University must support the students to learn and play. He shared that he was the Captain of the Kabaddi Team during his college days.

ATHLOS, the Sports Quiz tested the participants’ knowledge of different sports. The highlights of the event promotion included themed pre-quiz activities, registrations through QR code, stalls hosting contests, active Instagram page and buzzer designed and built in house with a touch of green by way of reusing soda bottles for the buzzers. The team of Arshan Rodrigues, Aayudh and Adarsh Nair came first followed by team of Kunal, Kuval and Mayank in second place and team of E S Ananth G Saketh Reddy and Sarath Sundar in third place. ATHLOS quiz event was organized by the Quotient Quiz Club of EC Campus on April 26, 2022.

Get, Set, Throw Intra Class Competition was successfully managed by the students of BBA HEM program on November 13, 2021 at the university cricket grounds. Team Madhura emerged as winners and team Alpha as runners up in the competition.
Students of BBA Sports Management program got an opportunity to interact with Jude Felix, Indian hockey player who has captained over 250 matches, including two World Cups, two Asian Games and three Champions Trophy tourneys. He focused on the game despite personal hardships and financial crisis. He led the national hockey team from 1993 to 1995 and is an Arjuna and Dronacharya Award winner. The student interaction was organized by the Department of BBA Sports Management at RR campus on October 23, 2021.
Bringing together experience, knowledge, and skills of everyone involved is key to building high performance capabilities in the field of sports. Students got an opportunity to understand the importance of ingraining mental toughness, improving self-confidence, handling performance pressure and building sustained focus and discipline as a team at the workshop conducted by Bhargavi Ramachandran ICF Associate Certified Coach. She shared insights from her experience of guiding internationally ranked badminton players and top ranked national players. The workshop featuring insightful team building activities was organized by the Department of Sports Management of RR campus on October 23, 2021.
Divy Nandan won second place in the Super Stock Category in MRF National Championship held at Madras Motor Speedway in Chennai from September 24-26, 2021.
Naren, student of BBA program in sports management won the men’s singles crown at the Belgian Junior International Series in Herstal, Belgium.
Rakshit, third semester student of MBA program won first place in CVL Shastry Memorial Table Tennis state championship-2021 and third place in men’s state ranking table tennis Tournament. The tournaments were held in held at Malleshwaram Association, Bangalore in September, 2021.

Saneeth Dayanand caused two upsets in a day to seal his place in the finals. His winning spree ended in the finals and he emerged as the runner-up in the under 19 men’s category in the Russian International White Nights 2021 held at Gatchina, Saint Petersburg, Russia from July 1-4, 2021. Saneeth will be joining the BBA in Sports Management program at PES University.
Saneeth S Dayanand Student of II PU Commerce from PES Institutions has been selected for the Russian International Junior Series 2021 at St. Petersburg, Russia from 1st to 4th July 2021.
He is also a National Badminton player. He was awarded No. 1 in All India Doubles in Junior Category and No. 1 in Karnataka state singles and doubles.
He is keen on Joining BBA- Sports Management course in PES University.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering emerged as winners in the The Inter-Department Throwball competition was held at the Electronic City Campus on Feb 6-7.
To revive the memories of childhood and enjoy traditional games, the department of MCA organised inter semester Lagori games. The second semester team emerged as the winners in the final game held at PESU RR campus on Feb 11, 2020.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering won the inter-department Volleyball competition and Department of Science and Humanities emerged as runner up. The contest in which 9 teams participated was held at EC campus from Feb 3-5, 2020.
As part of the Makar Sankranti celebrations, the MCA department organised a kite flying session for students. Dr. Veena S, Chairperson of the department inaugurated the event in which more than 50 students took part. Some students experienced kite flying for first time and those skilled in the game took the kites high in the sky. The sight of kites of different colours, shapes and sizes, high in the air was mesmerising. The message of freedom and growth with strings of responsibilities attached to the ground was loud and clear at this event held at PESU RR campus on Jan 28, 2020.
PES University’s Badminton women’s team emerged as the winner at Riviera 2020. The other games in which PES University registered impressive wins included third place in women’s basketball and throwball and men’s table tennis and chess. Riviera 2020, the international cultural and sports fest of Vellore Institute of Technology, saw participation in over 129 events by 38,000 students from 700 universities and colleges from 30 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. The four day annual cultural extravaganza got underway on February 14, 2020 on the VIT campus in Vellore.
4th International Staff Tournament was organized by Department of Physical Education & Sports at PES University from Jan 20 to 23, 2020. Staff members from more than 35 Engineering Colleges actively participated in this mega event including University of Colombo and University of Kelaniya from Sri Lanka Tyagarajan College of Engineering, Coimbatore and Manipal Institution of Technology and Kasturba Medical College from Manipal.
