Managing Elections in India by Padmabhushan Shri. N. Gopalaswami, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India

It was a great honour for PES University for having Padmabhushan Shri N Gopalaswami who is the former chief election commissioner talk about “Managing election in India” on June 2, 2022, at 10:30 am.

Chancellor Dr. M.R.Doreswamy, Vice-Chancellor Dr. J Surya Prasad, Registrar Dr. K S Sridhar, and Dr.Shailashree Haridas and all the faculty members and students cherished the moment of Sir N Gopalaswami’s presence in our campus. Dr. M.R.Doreswamy gave a gist about the topic “Managing elections in India” and explained about democratic system, parliament, calendar of events that take place during the election and so on.

Dean-Faculty of Management and Commerce Dr. Shailashree Haridas did show her gratitude towards Gopalaswami sir for being in campus to share his knowledge to the students who are the bright future and the citizens of India.

In the Predidential Address,Chancellor Dr. M R Doreswamy described about the journey of 50 years of PES and also his vision on the Future of PES University.

Shri N Gopalaswami sir’s introduction was made by playing a video which involved his mesmerizing life journey and contributions to the society.

Shri N Gopalaswami a distinguished gentleman was born on April 21, 1944. He served as the 15th Chief Election Commissioner of India who has been awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2015. He is a 1966 batch Indian Administrative Services officer belonging to Gujarat cadre.

He took over the charge of CEC on 30 June 2006 and retired in April 2009. He is currently the president of Vivekananda Educational Society which runs a group of schools in and around Chennai. He was appointed as the Chairman of Kalakshetra for a term of five years starting from 22 October 2014, until 2019.

Shri N Gopalaswami expressed his happiness for addressing PES university which will be celebrating golden jubilee i.e 50th year in no time. Sir spoke about Article 325 and Article 329 which is very important as these 2 laws regulate the situations during elections. He also spoke about the election process, Parliament election designing, instance of election that was held in Kerala in 2006, and aspects that was taken into consideration for conducting election. How police officers are being asked to manage the situation and which state conducts the election better and so on.
