PES University hosts a hackathon for Government (BBMP) High School Students on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration - SAMAGIC

On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebration, The Coder Factory (TCF) Club under the CSE Department at PES University hosted a social-service hackathon called Samagic held on August 27, 2022. Shri. Vishweshwar Bhat, Editor in Chief, Viswavani Daily, Dr. Ramprasath Manohar (IAS), and Prof. M. R. Doreswamy, Chancellor, PES University, Advisor, Education Reforms, GoK graced the students with their presence and viewed the unique ideas come together.

The event brought together high school students from BBMP Chamrajpete and Kasturiba Nagar with Engineering college students to solve social impact problems based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout the day. The high school students made use of the skills picked up during the design thinking workshop which was held on 20th August 2022. The students worked tirelessly to create unique solutions to water problems, food wastage, safety, and animal welfare. Addressing the core organizing team headed by Keerthi Raghavendra, IAS Officer Dr. Ramprasath Manohar lauded the CSE Department who facilitated the conduction of the event, Dr. Shylaja S. S. the Chairperson of the CSE Department, and Mrs. Sindhu Pai (Club Mentor & Co-ordinator). He also vocalized the importance of combining childlike creativity with technical know-how to solve modern-day issues.

Dr. M. R. Doreswamy and Shri. Vishweshwar Bhat interacted with the students and was very impressed with the innovative solutions that were being developed. In his addressal, Dr. M R Doreswamy emphasized the need to include technical out-of-the-box thinking. He highlighted how such experiences hold more value during job interviews in the future. He mentioned how this is one of the main objectives under the New Education Policy and is in line with the ideals of honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a New India. The hackathon concluded with the final top 10 presentations that included skits, customer reviews, wireframes, and prototype models that were developed by the high school students and Engineering students as a team. The presentations were judged by Dr. Shylaja S. S. Chairperson, CSE, Sathya Prasad, the Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Dr. Mamatha H. R, Professor, the department of CSE, and the top 3 teams were announced. The enthusiastic high school students thoroughly enjoyed the event and even mentioned how they acquired new skills while having a lot of fun at the same time.
