PES University Organizes Juris Conscientia - The Law Summit - 2023

Faculty of Law, PES University organized Juris Conscientia - The Law Summit, 2023 on Monday March,06, 2023. The Summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B. V. Nagarathna, Judge Supreme Court of India.

Honorable Mr. Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar, Judge High Court of Karnataka was the Guest of Honor on the occasion. His Lordship addressed the students on Shaping 21st century lawyers and contemporary challenges. He asserted that a lawyer / an advocate or a judge, is not limited to not just one meaning, but a wide ambit of meanings, that connotes one who is conscious of law and its implementation in the society. To be a good lawyer, one should have 3 essential qualities which are the literary habit of mind, scientific habit of mind, and legal habit of mind. Furthermore he emphasized that judgment must be authored in the most simple language in order for a layman to understand the same.

He mentioned that earlier the legal profession had only 2 branches of litigation. but with the advent of modern tools and technological advancements, the related crimes are on the rise. Hence, lawyers need to be equipped with modern technology and adapt to changes. His Lordship advised the students to build their career from the trial courts as the foundation lies at the trial court.

His Lordship participated in an interactive Q & A session with questions widely ranging from the aspects of legality and morality in deciding cases, His Lordship’s journey of handling cases, the need for police reforms in the nation, victim rehabilitation, gender- neutral laws and various other facets of law to which His lordship graciously answered every question in detail.

In the presidential address Prof. D. Jawahar Hon’ble Pro Chancellor spoke about the future of the Faculty of Law at PES University. Dr. K. S. Sridhar, Registrar of the University welcomed the dignitaries while Dr. Sujith P Surendran, Associate Dean, Faculty of Law proposed the vote of thanks.
