Training Program in Community Medicine for MSc Psychology Students

The Department of Community Medicine at PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESIMSR), Kuppam, organized a Training Program in Community Medicine for PES University MSc Psychology Students from 7th to 12th April 2025. The program aimed to provide practical exposure to key public health topics relevant to psychology. The sessions were inaugurated by Dr. Krishna Rao (Dean & Principal, PESIMSR), Dr. Chitra Nagaraj (HOD, Community Medicine), Dr. Praveen Kumar B.A (Professor, Community Medicine), and Dr. Sreelatha (HOD, Psychiatry). Over six days, students attended expert-led sessions on topics such as the National Mental Health Program, behavioral issues in students, gender-specific mental health challenges, and tobacco cessation strategies, led by esteemed faculty including Dr. Anil, Dr. Vinay, Dr. Chitra Nagaraj, and Dr. Faye Rose. Field visits included focused group discussions, and students developed awareness videos on tobacco and mental health.

The organizing team comprised postgraduates from Community Medicine, supported by interns and Psychiatry postgraduates. Around 80 participants including PES University staff were involved. All participants received photo frames, and winners of poster presentations were felicitated with prizes. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Siri Chandana, 2nd-year postgraduate. The enthusiastic participation and collaborative efforts of postgraduates and MSWs played a crucial role in the success of this enriching training initiative.
