On January 14, 2025, the Faculty of Management and Commerce (FOMC) at PES University, Electronic City Campus, organised “The Resume Reboot Workshop” at the Medical College Seminar Hall. The session was designed to help students build strong, compelling, and industry‑aligned resumes that effectively communicate their skills, achievements, and potential.

Led by Ms. Sonali Dutta, Founder of Youmanize, the workshop offered students valuable, actionable strategies on resume design, personal branding, and navigating modern hiring environments.

YOU as a Brand
Ms. Dutta introduced students to the idea of viewing themselves as a brand.
She emphasized that every resume must clearly answer three foundational questions

  • Who are you?
  • What have you done?
  • What value do you bring to an organisation?

Students were taught how to use an experience inventory, a method for cataloging academic, extracurricular, and personal experiences and converting them into strong, relevant resume points.

Bullet‑Proofing Resume Points
A key section of the workshop focused on crafting high‑impact resume bullet points.
Instead of vague, generic phrasing, Ms. Dutta encouraged students to use

  • Strong power verbs such as designed, collaborated, analysed, implemented, promoted
  • Concrete examples that highlight impact and contribution

The Action–Task–Result (ATR) framework was introduced as a simple and effective formula for transforming experiences into structured, results-driven statements that recruiters can immediately understand.

Understanding ATS: The Digital Gatekeeper
A major highlight of the workshop was the deep dive into Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)—software used by companies to screen resumes long before a human sees them.

Students learned

  • How ATS filters resumes based on formatting, keywords, and relevance
  • The importance of creating AI‑friendly yet human-readable resumes
  • Why honesty, clarity, and precision matter in modern hiring

By the end of the session, students gained clarity on designing resumes that meet the expectations of both automated systems and hiring managers.

A Transformative Learning Experience
The Resume Reboot Workshop provided students with practical tools and renewed confidence as they prepare for internships, placements, and future career opportunities. By combining personal branding, strategic writing, and an understanding of hiring technologies, the session empowered participants to present their best professional selves.
