PES University's Institute of Design hosted its first design fest, aptly named 'Design Santhe,' on the 30th of November. The Santhe is a convergence of design and art. The creative minds and design enthusiasts of PESU brought together fine craftsmanship and artistry to provide an experience of a lifetime. The fest featured an array of enthralling events, from live art stalls to pottery demonstrations. Over a dozen stalls selling a thousand products ranging from jewelry, stickers, postcards, T-shirts, posters, and many more were set up by the students. The event was Patronised by the Chancellor, Dr. M R Doreswamy, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof D Jawahar.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Suryaprasad J, the Registrar, Dr. K S Sridhar, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. V Krishna and the Director of the Institute of Design, Prof Chitra Viswanathan.
The event was a precious learning experience for budding artists and designers of the institute of design. The fest acted as a training ground for the students to hone their business and people skills and boosted their confidence by validating their creativity. Devanshi Sachan, a student from the organizing committee, commented, "The event was an excellent opportunity for me to hone my leadership skills."
In collaboration with the Bengaluru Design Week, the Santhe welcomed over seventy students from Parikrama Government School, Jayanagar, and introduced them to careers in design. Reya Gafar, a vital organizing committee member, even remarked, "The event became much more precious with government school children joining."
“The Design Santhe was a completely student-led initiative with the participation of over 500 students,” said Smrthi Harits, the program manager of the Institute of Design. The event was a resounding success, witnessing a turnout of over thousands of purveyors. The day concluded with an impromptu jamming session with both students and faculty singing with gusto and left a unique experience engraved in the hearts of everyone involved.
