Sankalanam 2026: Celebrating the Spirit of Mathematics at PES University

Mathematics took center stage at PES University, Electronic City Campus, as the Department of Science & Humanities, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Applied Mathematics (CEAM), organized Sankalanam 2026 to celebrate International Mathematics Day (Pi Day) on March 30, 2026. The event brought together students, faculty, and mathematics enthusiasts to celebrate logic, creativity, and the real‑world impact of numbers.

The celebration began well ahead of Pi Day with a series of engaging pre‑events held on March 04 and 10, 2026, designed to spark curiosity and encourage participation across disciplines. These activities showcased the multifaceted nature of mathematics—from problem‑solving and simulation to creativity and design. Events included Maths Grid, a crossword‑based challenge, Simu Math, which focused on modelling and simulating real‑life problems using MATLAB and Python, Express in Essence, a tagline‑making competition for CEAM, and Logo Quest, a logo design competition that blended mathematics with visual creativity.

Students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and talent across all pre‑events. Outstanding performers were recognized, with winners emerging from diverse programs and sections, reflecting the inclusive and interdisciplinary spirit of Sankalanam 2026.

The main event, held at the MRD Student Center on March 30, 2026, was graced by distinguished guests including Dr. Nagarjuna Sadineni, Pro Vice Chancellor, PES University, and Dr. Subhash Kulkarni, Principal. The celebration featured an insightful session by Mr. Samarth Salian, alumnus of the 2010 batch and currently a Digital Banking Architect at i‑exceed, Bengaluru. His interaction offered students valuable perspectives on the application of mathematics in industry and technology.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere were interactive math trick game stalls organized by the Shunya Club, live demonstrations on concepts such as Laplace and Fourier Transforms, and a grand felicitation ceremony honoring all the competition winners. These activities transformed abstract mathematical ideas into engaging, hands‑on experiences.

Sankalanam 2026 successfully ignited curiosity, creativity, and a renewed appreciation for mathematics among students. The event stood as a celebration of analytical thinking and innovation, reinforcing the importance of mathematics in shaping problem‑solvers and future leaders.

The organizers extend heartfelt gratitude to all participants, faculty members, judges, and student volunteers whose collective efforts made Sankalanam 2026 a memorable and impactful celebration.
