World Health Day was observed on April 10, 2026 at the Gottigere Primary Health Centre (PHC) by the Department of Community Medicine, PESU Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESU IMSR). The event aimed to create awareness among patients attending the PHC regarding emerging public health challenges and the importance of preventive healthcare.

Theme: “Together for Health: Stand with Science”

The theme for World Health Day 2026, “Together for Health: Stand with Science,” was explained in detail during the session. Emphasis was laid on the significance of scientific approaches in safeguarding public health, especially in the context of rapidly changing environmental and social conditions.

Focus on Environmental Health and Climate Change
The session highlighted the impact of environmental changes on human health. Topics such as heat waves, floods, and other climate‑related conditions were discussed to help participants understand how environmental degradation directly affects individual and community well‑being. Contributing factors including deforestation, encroachment of water bodies, and unplanned urbanization were explained with real‑life examples relevant to the local context.

Awareness on Communicable Diseases and Prevention
The role of animals and vectors in disease transmission was discussed, with examples such as rabies, COVID‑19, and malaria. Participants were educated on preventive measures, environmental cleanliness, and personal hygiene to reduce the risk of communicable diseases. The interactive nature of the session encouraged questions and discussions, making the learning experience engaging and practical.

Information on Health Services and Immunization
Patients were informed about the various healthcare services and facilities available at the Primary Health Centre. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of routine immunization as a key preventive strategy. Awareness was also created regarding the ongoing HPV vaccination program, highlighting its role in preventing cervical cancer and promoting long‑term health.

Community Engagement and Impact
The session was well received by the participants, who actively engaged in discussions and expressed a better understanding of the link between environmental health and disease prevention. The initiative reinforced the role of community‑based awareness programs in strengthening public health and promoting informed healthcare choices.
