Promoting awareness about population health and responsible family planning is essential for building a sustainable future. In observance of World Population Day, the Department of Community Medicine at PES University Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESUIMSR), through its Urban Health Training Centre, organized a health awareness session at the Gottigere Primary Health Centre (PHC) on July 17, 2026.

Raising Awareness on Population Challenges
The programme was conducted in collaboration with Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and the Lady Health Visitor (LHV) team, bringing together community members for an informative and interactive session. Around 15 to 20 participants attended the programme and actively engaged in discussions on population-related issues.

The session focused on India's growing population and the challenges associated with overpopulation, including increased pressure on food resources, housing, healthcare services, and employment opportunities. Participants were provided with a broader understanding of how population growth impacts social and economic development.

Educating Communities on Population Stabilization
Health educators emphasized the importance of population stabilization strategies and highlighted measures that contribute to healthier families and communities. Discussions centered on the role of education, delayed marriage, financial independence, and informed decision-making in achieving sustainable population growth.

The programme encouraged participants to recognize the value of responsible parenthood and the importance of planning families based on individual health, economic, and social considerations.

Promoting Informed Family Planning Choices
A significant component of the session focused on family planning methods and reproductive health awareness. Participants were educated about various temporary contraceptive options, including condoms, oral contraceptive pills, Saheli, I-Pill, and intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs).

The healthcare team also explained permanent family planning methods such as tubectomy and vasectomy, providing clear and accurate information to help individuals make informed choices.

To address common concerns, misconceptions surrounding contraception were discussed and clarified. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, creating an open environment for learning and dialogue about reproductive health.

Strengthening Community Health Through Awareness
The programme concluded with a strong message on responsible parenthood, informed reproductive health decisions, and community participation in promoting healthier families. By bringing essential health information directly to the community, PESUIMSR continues to support public health initiatives that empower individuals with knowledge and encourage positive health-seeking behaviors.

Through awareness programmes such as these, the Department of Community Medicine reinforces its commitment to community engagement, preventive healthcare, and the promotion of informed choices that contribute to the well-being of society.
