Workshop on SPSS: Empowering Researchers with Data-Driven Insights
A workshop on SPSS was conducted to help participants develop essential skills in statistical data analysis and research methodology.
In today's research landscape, data analysis plays a crucial role in generating meaningful insights and evidence-based conclusions. To strengthen analytical skills among aspiring researchers, a Workshop on SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was conducted on September 30, 2026 at the Indian Institute of Hotel Management, Bangalore. The workshop was led by Dr. Thashneem T. Bhanu and focused on providing participants with practical knowledge of statistical data analysis using SPSS.
The session introduced participants to the foundations of SPSS, beginning with an overview of the software interface and its capabilities. Attendees explored various types of data, scales of measurement, and the importance of accurate data management in research. Special emphasis was placed on creating SPSS files, handling missing values, identifying duplicate cases, and organizing datasets effectively for analysis.

As the workshop progressed, participants gained hands-on experience in performing descriptive statistical analysis and visualizing data through tables, charts, and graphs. These techniques enabled attendees to better understand data distributions and communicate findings more effectively. The session also covered the analysis of bivariate data, correlation studies, and linear regression, helping learners understand relationships between variables and make data-driven predictions.
Learning SPSS is not just about mastering software; it is about unlocking the power of data-driven research and discovery.
A significant component of the workshop focused on hypothesis testing, a core aspect of research methodology. Participants learned how to formulate hypotheses, select appropriate statistical tests, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions. Practical demonstrations of z-tests, t-tests, ANOVA, and Chi-Square tests provided valuable exposure to commonly used research tools and techniques.

The workshop attracted postgraduate students keen on enhancing their research and analytical capabilities. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, attendees developed a deeper understanding of statistical concepts and their real-world applications. The program successfully bridged theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, equipping participants with skills that can be directly applied in academic and professional research.
Overall, the Workshop on SPSS served as a valuable learning platform, enabling participants to build confidence in data analysis, statistical interpretation, and research problem-solving. By fostering analytical thinking and evidence-based decision-making, the workshop reinforced the importance of statistical literacy in modern research and professional practice.
