World Malaria Day 2025 outreach
This year’s theme Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite encourages collaborative and sustained action to end malaria, underscoring that success depends on a unified effort by all levels of society. The Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) team undertook awareness drive and field work on April 25, 2025. The team conducted a comprehensive larval survey in the field practice area, focusing on identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sources. Stagnant water bodies, overhead tanks, flower pots, and containers were inspected, and appropriate measures were taken to prevent mosquito breeding. Residents were educated about malaria transmission, symptoms, early diagnosis, and the importance of completing treatment and preventive measures such as source reduction, use of mosquito nets, and environmental sanitation. A health education session was also conducted at the Primary Health Centre, Gottigere for the general public, focusing on the importance of early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and vector control. The Dept of Community Medicine observed World Malaria Day in collaboration with Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) Lakkur on April 29, 2025. Entomological survey was conducted by students to identify potential breeding sites of malaria vectors. Community members along with grassroot level workers were involved in a clean up drive to clear blocked drainage, remove stagnant water and information, education, and communication materials were distributed emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and effective treatment. The Accredited Social Health Activists and medico-social workers motivated the public for behaviour change like use of mosquito repellants, use of insecticide treated mosquito nets, early care seeking in case of fever and environmental sanitation. The programs raised awareness about Malaria in vulnerable areas which is a vital step towards preventing an outbreak through prevention strategies and community involvement in controlling it.
