World Rabies Day 2026: Spreading Awareness for Prevention and Protection

Rabies continues to be a significant public health concern, making awareness and preventive education essential for protecting communities. To mark World Rabies Day, the Department of Community Medicine, PES University Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, organized an awareness program at Gottigere Primary Health Centre on September 25, 2026.

The initiative focused on educating patients and community members about rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of seeking medical attention after animal bites. Participants were informed about immediate wound washing with soap and running water, timely reporting to healthcare facilities, and the need to complete the recommended anti-rabies vaccination schedule.

The awareness session also highlighted the importance of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and the role of rabies immunoglobulin in cases of severe exposure. Through interactive discussions and health education activities, attendees gained valuable knowledge about preventing rabies and responding appropriately to animal bites.
