World Hypertension Day observed
Hypertension, often termed the silent killer, is widely prevalent in India, with one in three adults affected by it, many of whom remain undiagnosed and untreated. A multifaceted health initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting the prevention and management of hypertension was launched starting with an informative session that emphasized the significance of regular blood pressure monitoring and the risks associated with hypertension. The free screening camp identified those with elevated readings who were provided personalized counseling on adopting the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet, which recommends increased intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products, while limiting sodium intake. Importance of engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing stress through relaxation techniques was highlighted. The local community participated actively and availed the free screening services and engaged in discussions about hypertension management. The Pressure Down, Life Up! Interaction with the community to mark the World Hypertension Day was organized at RHTC Lakkur on May 20, 2025 by the Department of Community Medicine.
