PES University Conducts World Hand Hygiene Day Awareness Session at Gottigere PHC

Bengaluru, May 8, 2026 — To observe World Hand Hygiene Day, the Department of Community Medicine at PES University Hospital organized an impactful health education session at the Gottigere Primary Health Centre (PHC). The initiative aimed to strengthen public understanding of the importance of hand hygiene in preventing infectious diseases and promoting overall community well‑being.

Around 15–20 patients attending the PHC participated in the session. The team emphasized the significance of regular hand washing as one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Participants learned about essential moments for hand hygiene—such as before eating, after using the restroom, upon returning home, and before handling food.

A live demonstration of the seven steps of proper hand washing was conducted, showcasing the correct technique using soap and water for at least 15–20 seconds. Participants actively engaged with the demonstration and were encouraged to incorporate consistent hand hygiene practices into their daily routines.

The session highlighted a clear message: clean hands play a powerful role in preventing infections and supporting healthier communities.
